AREA OF CULTIVATION
After liberalization of sandalwood act, farmers are very much interested and cultivating sandalwood in their farm and barren lands, along with horticulture/agriculture crops with different agro forestry models. In Karnataka, more than 6000 hectares of sandalwood has been cultivated in their lands. In others states like Gujarat 2500ha, Maharashtra 5000ha, Telangana and Andra Pradesh 4000ha, Tamilnadu l000ha, and Assam 200ha plantation has been done.
Sandal wood can be grown in variety of soil and ranging different climatic condition and temperature, not restricted to any region or area The plantation grown Sandal wood with intensive cultivation in organic manner gives good results than the natural once
Collected seed from August to March with identified seed collecting area of the age between 15 to 25 years plant, dried and treated seeds used for sowing by indigenous or scientific method. Well developed healthy seedlings of 6 to 8 months old are ideal for planting in the farm. May and June is right time for planting
